Highly experienced and highly qualified piano teacher, Lorraine holds a CT ABRSM and diploma in teaching (Dip ABRSM) from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, in addition to her performing qualifications.
With 30 years experience as a Piano Teacher both privately and in schools, Lorraine is Director and Founder of The Womack-Banning Piano Academy which offers the highest standards of piano tuition via studio lessons delivered by Lorraine and home visit lessons from her highly skilled team of teachers.
In addition to private studio lessons, Lorraine is also a Visiting Piano Teacher at Bedford Girls’ School and a Deputy Piano Teacher at London’s Guildhall School of Music in the Junior Department STP.
Lorraine can also offer lessons in London Piano Studios Jaques Samuels Pianos and Steinway Hall.
During her many years of piano teaching Lorraine has taught and inspired many students both young and old, from beginner to advanced, with great success and some of their testimonials can be viewed on this site.
EXAM AND FESTIVAL RESULTS:
Though not all students wish to participate in exams and festivals, those who do are well prepared and achieve excellent results. The last 30 years have seen her students achieve 100 percent pass rate with around 95 percent of those attaining Merit and Distinction for practical exams, with similar success in Music Theory Exams.
Many of Lorraine’s pupils enjoy performing in concerts and festivals and since returning to Bedford 2006 Lorraine’s pupils have achieved numerous First, Second and Third places in many of the piano classes at the Bedfordshire Music Festival .Many are also prize winners at their schools and other festivals and competitions some have gone on to obtain music scholarships in their own schools or moved on to specialist music schools, universities and conservatoires.
WORKSHOPS AND CONCERTS
Over the years Lorraine has hosted many concerts and workshops both with her late husband the Pianist and Piano Professor Raymond Banning and on her own her own. Workshops are often held around exam, festival and audition time to assist students prepare for their performance. Concerts are usually held in the Summer and Christmas terms, all students are encouraged to take part whenever possible.
Lorraine also runs The Bedfordshire Piano Meetup Group: www.meetup.com/Bedfordshire–Piano–Meetup–Group/ which gives adult pianists opportunities for informal performances.
As Regional Organiser for EPTA UK Bedford Town, Lorraine is organising a series of workshops for teachers and for their pupils in the coming months, details of which can be found on the EPTA page on this site, on the EPTA UK website and on the ISM website.
Recent events have been workshops, Masterclasses and Seminars by various International Music Educators, Composers and Pianists such as Paul Harris, Grahm Fitch, Mark Polishook, and Murray Mclachlan plus various discussion groups and informal performing opportunities for Piano Teachers and their pupils.
Last year we held a local round of the EPTA Competition with several local students going through to the Regional Finals.
